To prevent migrants from crossing the northern border, they have authorized asylum permits to be granted from within the state using the CBP One platform.
Tabasco will now become a mandatory stop for thousands of migrants worldwide who attempt to reach the neighboring northern country by traveling through Central America and crossing Mexico.
The U.S. government will authorize asylum permits only from Chiapas and Tabasco. According to a recent statement from the Customs and Border Protection (CBP), migrants can use the CBP One app to schedule appointments without needing to travel to the northern part of the country.
Migrants in northern and central Mexico will still have the option to schedule appointments at the eight entry ports along the U.S.-Mexico border: Brownsville, Eagle Pass, Hidalgo, Laredo, El Paso, Nogales, Calexico, and San Ysidro. However, it’s important to note that attending the appointment does not guarantee acceptance of asylum in the United States.
Depending on the decision, migrants may either be allowed to stay or returned to Mexico. This approach aims to reduce the suffering often experienced by migrants, including human rights violations, abuse by criminal groups and authorities, arbitrary detentions, and fraud.
Nevertheless, it also places an indefinite burden on Tabasco, potentially leading to health issues, prostitution, street overcrowding, theft, and discontent among the local population, as well as an increased presence of criminal groups, including human traffickers, kidnappers, and rapists.
The lawyer said that with the application, migrants will be able to board buses and even planes, to go to the appointment, without being detained.
