A tragic accident on the Villahermosa-Escárcega highway resulted in the deaths of over 30 people when a passenger bus collided with a trailer, causing both vehicles to catch fire. The exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed due to the severity of the collision in the state of Campeche.
Initial reports indicate that the bus was traveling from Cancun, Quintana Roo, to Tabasco when the accident occurred. Local media reported multiple fatalities and at least 10 survivors. The crash happened around 1:00 a.m. when the trailer driver veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the “Tours Acosta” bus. The impact caused both vehicles to burst into flames.
Tabasco Governor Javier May expressed deep sorrow over the victims’ deaths and announced coordinated efforts with federal and Campeche authorities to provide necessary assistance at the crash site.
“We deeply regret the accident that occurred this morning near Escárcega, involving a bus traveling from Cancun to Tabasco. We are coordinating with federal and Campeche authorities to provide the required care. The Secretary of Government is closely monitoring the situation,” he stated on social media.
Tabasco’s Secretary of Government, José Ramiro “Pepín” López Obrador, pledged full support for the families of the deceased, stating, “You are not alone; a great government supports you!” He confirmed that the details of the victims and the number of those involved in the accident are still being determined but promised assistance in recovering the remains of the deceased.

The Acosta company, which operated the bus, expressed deep regret over the accident that occurred at 2:45 a.m. on the Villa del Sol Tecolutilla route. The company assured full cooperation with authorities to clarify the events and offered support to the victims’ families, stating, “We have lost very dear relatives, as well as clients and friends. We appreciate your understanding and solidarity.”
