On the occasion of International Education Day, held yesterday, the World Summit for Innovation in Education (WISE), an initiative based in Qatar, published a study on the opinions of young people regarding their education and the future

The analysis, conducted between September and October 2019, was applied to 9 thousand 509 young people between 16 and 25 years old, using a representative sample in each nation

The countries of the Middle East were: Qatar, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey; from Africa: Morocco Nigeria, United States; and from Europe: France, Finland, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Russia.

Thus, the young Mexicans surveyed equated their similar ones in Finland as the most satisfied with their education; This is despite the fact that the country, unlike the Nordic nation, is not among the best places in the PISA ranking that measures the academic performance of students among the nations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

This measurement revealed that 44% of young people in Mexico are “totally satisfied”, the same percentage in the case of Finnish students.

The analysis highlights that although Finlancia is among the best in the PISA ranking, Mexico does not.

According to the measurement published by WISE, satisfaction with education does not necessarily reflect the objective performance of the school system, but the perception of students, which also includes their good performance.

In contrast to what happens in Mexico and Finland, it highlights the case of South Korea, which has a good performance in PISA, satisfaction levels among Korean students are among the lowest (only 6% are completely satisfied with their education).

Young people from these 20 countries expressed general satisfaction with their education. About eight out of 10 say they are satisfied, but among them, just over one in four say they are “totally satisfied” (27%), which leaves a significant margin for further improvement.

The survey was conducted by Ipsos in 20 countries around the world with the aim of understanding how young people perceive their education and how prepared and safe they feel for their future.

The young people of Mexico, along with the Brazilians, have been the only ones in the Latin American eld to participate in this survey.
