The Zacatecas State Attorney General’s Office (FGJEZ) reported this Sunday that members of the Investigative Police and the Mexican Army were attacked by armed civilians in the municipality of Tabasco.

Four officers were injured in the attack, which occurred on Saturday. The attack by armed individuals erupted after a security detail carried out a search warrant at a property in the southern part of the state.

The Attorney General’s Office also reported that during the search, officers seized a vehicle that had been reported stolen, as well as 1,600 doses of substances suspected to be narcotics.

Following the attack, four officers were injured—three men and one woman—of whom only one remains hospitalized under specialized evaluation.

The Zacatecas Attorney General’s Office specified that the other injured officers were discharged and are receiving outpatient medical follow-up.

“This state institution recognizes and commends the courage, dedication, and professionalism of the men and women who, in the line of duty, carry out the necessary actions to safeguard order and contribute to the pacification of Zacatecas,” the institution stated.

To date, the prosecutor’s office has not disclosed whether any of the alleged aggressors were apprehended during the incident.

Finally, state authorities indicated that the corresponding investigation file has been opened to continue clarifying the facts.
